FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I want to work at one of your ski resorts next winter, how do I get a job?
You can view all of the available winter positions here on our website www.skijob1.com. We typically start posting winter jobs in the late summer or fall. You are now able to apply online for all open positions. Some managers may want to interview candidates in person before making a hiring decision.
Do I need a résumé?
We leave this decision up to the applicant. It is helpful to see a résumé, but it is not required for most positions.
What kinds of jobs are available?
We have a variety of jobs available each winter. Some of the departments that we hire for are: Lift Operations, Food and Beverage, Guest Services, Base Area Operations, Ski and Snowboard School, Race Crew, etc.
How many jobs can I apply for?
We allow applicants to apply for up to 5 positions at one time. However, when you interview with Human Resources, you can talk to the interviewer about other jobs you may be interested in.
How soon can I get a job?
There are three steps to getting a job. First, you must fill out an application. You then must be screened or interviewed by a representative from the Human Resources office. From there, if you are a qualified candidate, HR will pass your application to the hiring manager who will then contact you to set up another interview. This process can take anywhere from one day to a month, depending on the time of year.
Is housing available?
Yes, housing is available to full-time winter employees on a limited basis. Housing fills up rapidly so it is not available to all employees. Please see the "Housing" section for information on specific resort properties and pricing www.skijob1.snow.com/info/mm.h.asp.
Do I get a ski pass?
All employees receive a free ski pass!
Can I volunteer to get a ski pass?
Yes. We do offer a limited number of volunteer positions during the winter season. A few of our volunteer positions include guest service/information, star rides and race crew. These positions are not posted on the website, so you need to call the HR office of the mountain you are interested in to see if there is anything available.
How much money do I need to have when I arrive?
Plan ahead and have extra money for food, travel and housing deposits. Remember, you are moving to a resort community. Therefore the cost of living may be higher than expected. Please be prepared to pay more for certain things such as lodging, food, clothing, etc. Also, keep in mind that it may be several weeks before your first pay check arrives, so to be on the safe side, please plan on having enough money to cover your first month's expenses. Employees are paid every two weeks and the last day of the pay-period is one week prior to payday.
Do you pay for travel or relocation expenses?
No, we do not pay for any travel expenses for our seasonal positions.
How long is the ski season?
The ski season runs from Mid-November to Mid-April.
Can I get around without a car?
Many people who live in our resort towns seasonally don't have cars - and it is easy to get around! Buses run throughout the town and county buses travel between cities. Monthly bus passes are available to Vail Resorts employees at deeply discounted rates.
How do I get to the resort from the airport?
To travel to Eagle or Summit County from the Denver or Eagle airports, most employees use the Colorado Mountain Express (www.ridecme.com) shuttles. CME picks up at the airport and drops off at a number of locations in our resort areas. Vail Resorts employees are eligible for CME discounts.
Is employment available after the winter season?
Yes, employment is available after the winter season. The summer season usually runs from mid-June to September, but there may be off season work available at some locations.
