HOW TO APPLY

Working at one of our ski resorts will be the experience of a lifetime! With that, there is a lot that goes into the selection process, so to better guide you through this, we’ve provided some helpful information and tips.  Before you get started, we remind you to have your contact information, references, and your résumé on hand to make your process much smoother.  The whole application will take about twenty minutes.

Applying for a Job:

  • Vail Resorts only accepts applications/résumés for current posted positions. This simply means that if you don’t see an opening for the role you are looking for, it doesn’t exist, yet. Continue to visit the site to view the most current openings.

  • First Time Applicants: If this is the first time you have applied to a position at Vail Resorts, you must create a profile. This takes just a few minutes and will provide you a username and password allowing you to post for a position.

  • Though we encourage you to post for any and all positions you are interested in, it is strongly recommended that you only post to the positions you are qualified to fill. Posting for every position is not looked upon favorably.

  • The standard interview process may include a screening interview with a recruiter and one, two or even three interviews with supervisors/managers in the specific department to which you are applying. The recruiter can provide you with details to the interview process, including who you will interview with and how many interviews you can expect.

  • Each position within the College Program, Internship, and Management Associates Program does require a date commitment. To be considered for a position, you will need to be aware of the starting and ending dates of the job and be able to meet that commitment.

  • Employee Housing is offered by specific departments and is provided to College Program participants. Details around housing will be covered during the interview process.

I-9 Documentation:

  • The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires all U.S. employers to verify the employment eligibility and identity of all employees hired to work in the United States. Employers are required to complete Employment Eligibility Verification forms (Form I-9) for all employees, including U.S. citizens.

  • The Form I-9 must be completed by each employee prior to the first day of work. Examples of authorized documentation that need to be furnished by the employee can be found by visiting I-9 Documentation. A driver’s license alone is NOT sufficient for the I-9 documentation - please review this information carefully and make sure to bring the appropriate documentation - copies are NOT acceptable, we must have the originals!

  • E-Verify:
E-Verify is an online system operated by the Department of Homeland Security with the Social Security Administration that allows Vail Resorts to electronically verify employment eligibility. The documents you present for the I-9 will be used to verify your employment eligibility. All newly hired employees, including all seasonal rehires who have been terminated will be submitted to E-Verify.

Ten Interviewing Tips

  1. Be Sharp: There's only one chance to make a first impression! Even though Vail Resorts provides a casual environment, we recommend our applicants look and speak in a presentable manner. If you are interviewing in person, business casual to business professional is encouraged.  Our grooming policy states "no visible body piercings or tattoos" and "no radical hairstyles including unnatural hair dye, mohawks or dreadlocks." Each resort and department may establish additional guidelines so be sure to check with the recruiter for clarification on the grooming standards.

  2. Be on Time (5 minutes early): Never arrive late to an interview. Allow extra time to arrive early in the vicinity, allowing for traffic conditions, weather conditions or getting lost.

  3. Do Your Research: Research the company and the job you are interviewing for thoroughly.
    • Be sure you can fulfill the time commitment for the job
    • Be sure you meet all qualifications mentioned in the job description and requirements
    • Spend time on this website and others related to working with Vail Resorts

  4. Be Prepared: Many things will transpire during a short time during your interview, so be prepared.
    • Insure that you have completed your profile and online application prior to your interview.
    • Bring questions to an interview.  It shows interest and preparation and can provide you with much needed information that you can't get anywhere else.

  5. Show Enthusiasm: Employers seek to hire people who are excited to come to work every day.  Even though you may feel nervous, remain calm and show confidence through a firm handshake, consistent eye contact, and by speaking distinctly.

  6. Listen: One of the most neglected interviewing skills is listening.  Make sure that you are not only listening, but also preparing to respond to what you have heard.

  7. Answer the Question Asked: Candidates often don't think about whether or not they are actually answering the questions asked by their interviewers. Make sure you understand what is being asked, and feel comfortable asking for further clarification if you are unsure.

  8. Give Specific Examples: Follow the S.T.A.R method to detail your examples.  One specific example of your background is worth 50 vague stories. Prepare specific examples of your work history before the interview. Give examples that highlight your successes and uniqueness. Past behavior is the best indication of future performance.

  9. Ask Questions: Many interviewees don't ask questions and miss the opportunity to uncover valuable information. Your questions indicate your interest in the company or job.

  10. Follow Up: You will be given contact information during the screening interview of who to contact with questions, difficulties, or to follow up.
